Free contest, 28th Annual Ray Bradbury Creative Contest, prize: $50 (for Waukegan residents)

The Waukegan Public Library is pleased to announce the 28th Ray Bradbury Creative Contest. Contest entries are due by September 7, 2011. is year participants will be asked to submit an entry based on Ray Bradbury’s short story, e April Witch. e April Witch is a tale about a young witch named Cecy who wishes fervently to experience love for the first time. Her parents warn her that she’ll lose her magical powers if she mixes with “ordinary folk,” but Cecy decides love is worth the risk. Please submit an entry about a risk you took and whether, in the end, it was worth it.



Eligibility: The contest is open to all age groups. e age groups are defined as elementary, middle school, high school, and adult.*



Contestant Submission will be separated by entry form then into elementary, middle school, high

school and adult categories. ey will be further separated into Waukegan Resident and Non-Resident resulting in twenty-four categories.



Entries: Limit of one entry per category per individual. Entries must be titled.



Written: Must be typed, 12 point, double-spaced, on white 8 1/2" x 11" paper, 3 copies.



Length: No longer than one double-side page.**



Deadline: All entries must be received on or before September 7, 2011. Entries may be mailed,

hand-delivered, or emailed on or before the deadline. Late entries will not be accepted.



Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to elementary, middle school, high school students and to adults.

The winning prize for residents is $50. Non-residents will be awarded certificates.



At the criteria of the judges, Honorable Mentions may be awarded.



The winning entries will be published on the Ray Bradbury Contest page of the library web site. All entries will be on display at the library for one month after winner announcement. Local winner entries will be displayed at the 6th Annual Ray Bradbury Storytelling Festival. One winning resident school written entry will be read at the Bradbury Storytelling Matinee held at the Genesee eatre, Friday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m., by storyteller extraordinaire Megan Wells.
