Castleton Lyons and Thoroughbred Times will co-sponsor the Fifth Annual Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award, presented to the author of the best book about Thoroughbred racing published in 2010.
The award comes with a $10,000 cash prize—making it one of the richest book awards in the world—and the nomination process now is open for publishers wishing to have their books considered for the prestigious award.
The announcement of the winner of the 2010 Book Award will be made on Thursday, April 14 at a reception at Castleton Lyons in Lexington. The winner also receives a Tipperary Crystal trophy. The runners-up also will each receive a Tipperary Crystal trophy and $1,000 each.
Nominees for the Book Award can be in any category: fiction, non-fiction, handicapping, training, children’s, health care, photography, etc., as long as it pertains to an aspect dealing with Thoroughbreds. Judges selected by Thoroughbred Times will critique books on content, plus design, layout, and artwork, when relevant, to select the 2010 winner.
To submit nominees to the Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award, authors or publishing companies should send six (6) copies of the book, along with the nomination form, to: Book Award, Thoroughbred Times, 2008 Mercer Rd, Lexington, KY 40511. Entries must be received by February 25, 2011.

Winning Author Award: $10,000 and a trophy
The Dr. Tony Ryan Book Award, presented annually by Castleton Lyons and Thoroughbred Times, honors the author of the best book on any aspect of Thoroughbred racing published in 2010. The work can fall into any category: fiction, non-fiction, children’s, handicapping, health care, training, photography, etc. A panel of judges will take into consideration design, layout, and artwork when relevant. The author of the winning book will receive $10,000 and a trophy. Other finalists will receive $1,000 each and a trophy.
A book must be officially released in the calendar year 2010 in order to be eligible. The year of publication on the copyright page of a nominated book may be used to determine eligibility. Re-releases or updates of previously published books are not eligible.
Six (6) copies of each book must be submitted along with this signed nomination form from the publisher.
