Port Iris Magazine is a free online magazine providing short genre fiction: sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and the things in between.
Submission Process:
All fiction and non-fiction submissions are to be entered by the online submission form.
Fiction:
Please limit short fiction between 2,000 to 5,000 words. Flash Fiction will no longer be considered. I am specifically looking for science fiction and fantasy, but I am open to almost anything. Cross-genre is acceptable too. All stories must be original and well-written. Fan-fiction will not be accepted. I will consider reprints and simultaneous submissions. If either case applies, please notify me in your cover letter.
Art:
I’ll know what I’m looking for when I see it. I would prefer to see a sample of your work and then discuss the possibility of including a new piece; a URL link to an online gallery would be best. If you have a specific piece in mind, let me know. To query about submitting your artwork, please use the following online form.
Non-fiction:
I am not actively looking for non-fiction, but I am not opposed to accepting any. Please, query me first with the contact form.
Submission Format:
The submission system will only accept the following document filetypes: Rich text (.rtf), Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Open Office (.odt).
Compensation:
I will pay $10 for short fiction up to 5,000 words. Compensation for art and non-fiction pieces will be negotiable. In exchange, I will be acquiring first serial rights. All rights will revert to the author or artist upon publication of the piece. I hope that you will allow us to post your work in our archives indefinitely after its run on the front page. You will have the right to remove your work from the archives at any time.
