The Melbourne CELTIC CLUB, through its Cultural Heritage Committee, in association with the Australian Irish Heritage Network (publisher of Tinteán), are holding their 2010/2011 competition for the Celtic Club Irish Literary Award. The Award honours Morgan Jageur’s efforts in promoting Irish culture in Australia and helping establish the Celtic Club.
MORGAN JAGEURS was a fine orator and writer, and a man imbued with a deep love of Irish art and culture. Patrick O’Farrell says of Jageurs that he ‘personally sustained virtually all Irish organisations in Melbourne during his active lifetime.’
COMPETITION CRITERIA
1. Free entry. Open to all. Limit of 2 entries per person.
2. Entries may be prose, poetry or one man plays. Maximum 5,000 words.
3. Subject: Fiction or non-fiction relating to Ireland or the Irish Diaspora in Australia.
4. Entries should not be previously published.
5. Entries to be delivered in 2 forms (Hard copy to Celtic Club. Email copy to mrphillmoore@aol.com)
6. Entries will be judged on broadly-based aesthetic criteria, the quality and clarity of the writing and the depth of the research that underpins it.
7. The total prize money shall be $1,000.
8. Entries must be received by the Celtic Club by 5:00 pm on Monday, 19th December 2011.
9. The prize shall be presented at an event organised by the Celtic Club. The winner will be asked to speak to or read from the winning entry at the event.
10. The winning entry shall be considered for publication in Australian Irish journals.
