The Limerick Writers’ Centre, a voluntary organisation established to promote and nourish writing of all codes from Limerick, Ireland, would like to announce a new international competition ‘The LWC Flash Fiction Slam’ in association with O’Mahony’s Book Shop, Limerick.
Flash is a writing concept where authors are forced to write to a sometimes punishing word-count. Writers are asked to submit pieces of up to 300 words (not including title), with the theme being ‘Christmas’. The pieces must be stories with a beginning, a middle and an end – not poetry or vignettes.
The entries should be emailed to limerickwriterscentre@gmail.com with the word ‘Flash Fiction’ in the subject line. Entries should be in rich-text or Word format.(doc not docx) Entries should be in the English language only. The opening date for entries is 1st October 2010. The closing date for entries is the 30th of October 2010 One entry per writer The competition is free to enter A short-list of 10 entries will be announced on or around the 15th of November. Each shortlisted entrant will have the opportunity to read their piece (or have it read by an actor) at the 1st Annual LWC Flash Fiction Slam, at the Locke Bar, George’s Quay on Thursday 2nd December 2010. On the night of the 2nd of December there will be a small, sponsored audience prize for the Flash Fiction piece that is selected by the audience, by ballot. The judges panel winner will be awarded a cheque for €100 and the runners-up will receive certificates. The Judges decision is final (for a list of the judges, contact the Limerick Writers’ Centre.) No correspondence will be entered into. By entering this competition you are giving the organisers, The Limerick Writers’ Centre, the right to publish your entry, in print and electronically, for two years from 1st December 2010.
