Worldconnectors Essay Contest - FOOD
The world population is growing – and will continue to grow for at least another 40 years, reaching an estimated 9 billion people in 2050. Currently, more than one in seven people do not have access to sufficient protein and energy from their diet, and even more suffer from some form of micronutrient malnourishment. Future growth might result in increasing food insecurity, given that global food production is affected by increasing competition for land, water and energy.
Sustainable agricultural development is required to, especially in poor African countries, advance food security and, at same time, protect the environment.
Imagine: the Dutch government offers 1 billion euros per year for agricultural development to contribute to food security and the eradication of hunger in the world. How would you utilize this money?
We invite you to answer this question in an essay (of max. 2000 words). The best essay will win an amount of €2.500,- made available via the Rabobank Foundation. The best three essays will be published by United Academics and the writers of these essays will be invited to be present at the Round Table of Worldconnectors on December 6th in The Hague. Furthermore, the best essays will be published on the Worldconnectors’ website.
How do you enter the competition?
Send your essay before November 10th 2010 to roundtable@worldconnectors.nl and k.mous@ncdo.nl with your name, age, profession and employer (if relevant), city, telephone number and email address. There will be no correspondence about the results of this contest.
By sending your essay, you give the Worldconnectors the full right to publish the essay (always with the name of the author included) in several media outlets. You also agree to cooperate in potential media activities that are connected to this competition.
