Free contest, Caminos de la Libertad Essay Contest on Freedom (Spanish language), prize: $15,000 (worldwide)

The "Caminos de la Libertad" award was launched in September 2004 at the behest of Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego, Chairman of Grupo Salinas, to foment discussion on the topic of freedom.

Winners of the essay contest will be awarded US$15,000 for first place; US$10,000 for second place, and US$5,000 for third place. This year there will also be a special category for students from accredited institutions; the winner will be awarded US$5,000.

Essays that qualify for Honorable Mention will be published together with the winners in a special bound edition to commemorate the competition.

Entries should be between 5,250 and 14,000 words, and will be accepted until April 30, 2011.
