Concern's Fourth Annual Global Writing Competition
Speak Out! The Concern Creative Writing Competition provides an opportunity for you to let us know your thoughts on a wide range of development issues. Over 2,000 of you, from 30 different countries, have entered the competition in the past three years.
Your task
For this year’s competition, we want you to imagine that you are a journalist, stationed in a developing country, writing for an internationally renowned newspaper. Your editor has asked you to write a 1,000 word article on one of the following topics:
* Living on less than $2 a day in the developing world
* Imagining the future of a child born today in the developing world
* Important lessons we can learn from the developing world

Your deadline
All entries must be submitted online by midnight 27 March 2011.
The competition is divided into four different categories:
* Junior: age 12-15 years
* Senior: age 16-18 years
* College: full or part-time student in college or university
* Adult: age 19+ and not in college or university
Your reward
The following prizes will be awarded in each of the categories:
* First place: Laptop computer
* Second place: Kindle e-reader
* Third place: MP3 player
Get published
Winning and selected articles will be included in the Concern Creative Writing Competition book, to be published by Liffey Press. The winning essays from the 2010 and 2009 competitions were also published. These books are now available to buy.

Here are the rules for Concern’s Creative Writing Competition:
* Entries must be written in English
* Only one entry per person
* All work must be original and unaided
* The word limit is 1,000 words, please aim to keep within this
* We reserve the right to use entries for publication or promotional purposes
* Individuals will be notified by email in the event of their entry being selected for publication
* Entries must be submitted online by midnight on 27 March 2011
* Late entries will not be accepted
* Entries received on paper or via post will not be accepted
* Please make sure your contact details are entered correctly on the online form – this is to make sure we can contact you if your entry is chosen as a winner or for publication
* Concern Worldwide will arrange all publicity surrounding the competition winners and prize-giving. Winners are asked to refrain from arranging their own publicity or publication of winning entries
