Freelance Reporters wanted
San Diego Community Newspaper Group is recruiting freelance reporters to cover community news, events and people on an assignment basis. Geographic areas of coverage include La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Point Loma and downtown San Diego.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• Crime Reporter: Compile police logs, follow up on crimes and write about crime patterns. Must generate story ideas and keep in touch with sources.
• News Reporters: Cover town council and planning group meetings.
• Sports Reporters
• Business Reporters
REQUIREMENTS:
• Must currently reside in San Diego • Must know Associated Press style • Strong reporting skills and initiative • Strong English writing skills • Must meet set deadlines • Advanced knowledge of journalism fundamentals and story structure (journalism degree preferred) • Professional newspaper experience preferred • Computer and Internet access • Must have transportation • Current driver’s license
• Proof of vehicle insurance • Digital camera preferred
COMPENSATION:
• $25 to $50 per published article
• $10 per published photo
