Deadline: 25 February 2011
Submission Guidelines
Submit to collide@pitt.edu by February 25, 2011.
Please send all written pieces in one .doc file with the titles bolded. Do not include your name in this document. Along with your attached material, please include your name, contact information, school name, and a brief third-person biography in the body of the e-mail. Remember: You must be an undergraduate to submit. You do *not* have to be a student at the University of Pittsburgh. All pieces are reviewed and selected anonymously.
Poetry
Send no more than 5 poems. We consider all styles and forms, experimentations, and imitations (please include the imitated author's name).
Prose
Send no more than 3000 words of creative non-fiction prose. Again, we consider all styles and are open to experimentative forms. Non-fiction prose includes the personal essay, narrative, travel piece, and profile.
Literary Criticism (new!)
Send a literary critical essay of no more than 3000 words. All essays must consider contemporary literature ("contemporary," in this case, means anything written within the past ten years); or, if the essay considers older works, authors, or movements, there must be some connection made to the contemporary. Otherwise, we rule out no style or content.
Visual Art & Photography
Send up to 10 pieces in .jpg or .jpgs format. Visual art may include uploaded versions of photographs, sketches, paintings, or comics.
Music
Bands local to Pittsburgh may submit .mp3 files of up to 3 songs for our compilation CD. The CD will be distributed at our annual release party with the magazine.
Contest
All published poems and prose pieces are considered for special recognition. The top three pieces, as voted upon by the staff, receive cash prizes.
First: $250
Second: $175
Third: $100
Feedback
If you submit to Collision and we're unable to publish your work at the time, we offer to provide constructive feedback on your piece upon request. If you are interested in our criticisms and suggestions after hearing back from us, send us an e-mail with your name and the name of your piece. One of our editors will respond as soon as possible. We also encourage all past participants to continue sending in work, regardless of whether you've been published in Collision already.
