2011 ITA/USTWA SID Writing Competition

Think you can write? The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and the United States Tennis Writers Association (USTWA) are now accepting entries for a writing competition for those currently working within the athletic department of a college or university. Don’t miss this chance to serve us your college tennis articles for an opportunity to win cash and prizes.

GRAND PRIZE: $150 Cash prize, your winning article published on www.ITAtennis.com and www.USTWA.org as well as a certificate for your winning entry.

PRIZES

First Prize: A $150 cash prize, your winning article published on www.ITAtennis.com and www.USTWA.org as well as a certificate for your winning entry.

Second Place: A $75 cash prize, your article published on both ITA & USTWA’s official websites & a certificate for your winning entry.

Third Place: A $25 cash prize, your article published on both ITA & USTWA’s official websites & a certificate for your winning entry.

The ITA/USTWA will award the top 20 articles the opportunity to be featured on www.itatennis.com in the “Editionals” section under the “ITA360” tab as well as on the USTWA’s official site, www.USTWA.org. This is to honor and award the participants for their dedication to tennis and their passion for writing.

RULES

To be eligible for this contest you must be working within the athletic department of a college or university. All submitted pieces must be previously published (i.e. newspaper, website, magazine, journal, etc.). Please provide proof of publication upon submission.

*All submitted entries must be related to college tennis

Categories

* Memoirs/Personal Essay: 500-1,500 words
* Genre Short Story: 500-1,500 words
* Human Interest Writing: 500-1,500 words
* Poetry: 32 lines maximum

Preparing Your Entry:

1. If submitting your entry by email, please send to Jason Berney, ITA Media/Web Manager – jberney@itatennis.com. Your piece should be submitted in a Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF format.
2. If you are submitting your entry via regular mail, you may mail all entries in the same envelope and be sure to include a check for the any and all late fees, if necessary. The ITA’s mailing address is: 174 Tamarack Circle, Skillman, N.J., 08558.
3. Your entry must be original, in English. ITA/USTWA retains publication rights to the entries to be published.
4. If you are submitting your entry via regular mail, the entry must be typed on one side of 8-1/2 x 11 or A4 white paper. Your name, address, email and phone number must appear in the upper left-hand corner of the first page—otherwise your entry is disqualified.

JUDGING & NOTIFICATION

1. Every entry will be read by the staff of the ITA and/or the USTWA. Judges' decisions are final.
2. We cannot return submitted documents: please keep a copy for your records.
3. Top Award Winners will be notified by email/phone before May 24, 2011. The ITA/USTWA will award the top 20 articles the opportunity to be featured on www.itatennis.com in the “Editionals” section under the “ITA360” tab as well as on the USTWA’s official site, www.USTWA.org.
