The American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) has issued a call for submissions for the 2011 Essay Prize in Psychoanalysis and Culture. APsaA’s Committee on Research and Special Training (CORST) encourages the involvement of higher education academics in psychoanalysis and works with them to stimulate interest in psychoanalysis at the university level. Academics may submit essays on psychoanalytically informed research in the bio-behavioral sciences, social sciences, arts and/or humanities.
The winning essay will be presented at APsaA’s 2012 National Meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City and will be reviewed for publication by the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA). Additionally, the winner will receive a $1,000 prize and up to $1,000 in reimbursed expenses for hotel, airfare and/or travel to attend the award presentation on Jan. 13th, 2012.
Submission Guidelines:
The essay should be no more than 30 pages in length and should neither have been published or submitted for publication to other journals.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
The CORST Essay Prize is open to anyone - regardless of institutional status or affiliation.

CORST has had an internationally recognized essay award for the last decade, with programs of outreach that attract and integrate research candidates and offers mentorship for academics which includes psychoanalytic consultations on their research.
The American Psychoanalytic Association is a professional organization of psychoanalysts and is comprised of approximately 3,300 members. The oldest psychoanalytic organization in the nation, APsaA is celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2011.

Free contest, 2011-12 Charles S. Peirce Society Essay Contest, prize: $500

Topic: Any topic on or related to the work of Charles Sanders Peirce.

The winning entry will make a genuine contribution to the literature on Peirce. Therefore, entrants should become familiar with the major currents of work on Peirce to date and take care to locate their views in relation to published material that bears directly on their topic.
Entrants should note that scholarly work on Peirce frequently benefits from the explicit consideration of the historical development of his views. Even a submission that focuses on a single stage in that development can benefit from noting the stage on which it focuses in
reference to other phases of Peirce's treatment of the topic under consideration. (This advice is not intended to reflect a bias toward chronological studies, but merely to express a strong preference for a chronologically informed understanding of Peirce's philosophy.)
We do not require but strongly encourage, where appropriate, citation of the Writings of Charles S. Peirce: A Chronological Edition. Ideally, citation of texts found in both the Collected Papers and the Writings should be to both CP and W.
Submissions should be prepared for blind evaluation and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Cover letter or email should include complete contact information, including mailing address and phone numbers, and a statement that the entrant meets the eligibility requirements of the contest.

How to Enter:

What we are looking for …
Central Penn Parent magazine relies heavily on copy generated by freelance writers in our communities. Whenever possible, we use local sources in stories. Local writers are given preference when we are making assignments. We ask that all stories include a minimum of two local sources. We prefer a mix of experts and parents from different regions in our four-county market.
The purchase of reprints is considered.
Pitched pieces should be offered up well in advance, as we aim to work three months ahead of deadline.
What we pay …
Pay varies by the level of detail required for, and word count of, the assignment. Fees for original articles start at $50 and max out at $125. Writers who work with us for an extended time and writers who work on unusually research-heavy pieces will be paid at the higher end of the scale.
Our standard rate for reprints is $35.
We will ask you to submit a writer’s agreement specifying the negotiated rate. The agreement will also state that the writer retains ownership rights to the piece for future reprint (available after one month). The contracted rate includes the right for Central Penn Parent to reprint and archive said piece on www.centralpennparent.com.
Turning in your work …
Articles should be submitted as MS Word documents via e-mail at editor@centralpennparent.com. Please include your name, address, e-mail and telephone number with all queries and submissions and let us know if there is a preferred method of contact. The same should be included on any submitted attachments. Please use AP Style in your work for Central Penn Parent. All submitted copy must include clearly identified resources (names, phone numbers).
