Freelance writing, technology/ geek website, pays $10-$15 per article

So, here's the deal. We run a small number of niche websites (mostly based in Australia's .com.au TLD), and they need to be updated weekly with new content.

We're looking for a proficient Australia, US or UK-based writer who can type up a tech storm.

The reason we need someone who is a little 'geeky' is due to our niches. They are (in no particular order)

  • iPhone
  • MP3 Players
  • Game Consoles
  • LCD TV's
  • LED TV's
  • Android Phones

The types of content that works well on our sites are:

1. Latest News Updates (ie. searching google news for the latest happenings, researching stories on other sites, finding the best, latest, killer news and writing an article covering it)

2. 'How To' tips and tricks articles, showing how to achieve something new, how to solve a problem, etc...

3. Top 10 Lists. ie: Top 10 Ways To Cut Down Your iPhone Obsession.

We require around 600 words (500-600) for each article. We usually pay around $10-$15 per article, which generally gives us a decent quality, informative article that we are happy to publish on our site.

The job load will be around (approx) 10 articles per week, or around 50 per month. Ongoing on a month to month basis if everyone is happy. May increase in time...

We want these articles to 'help and inform people'. So quality is important, as is research and accuracy. We're not looking for articles that just take one point and go over it time and time again. We want articles that people go 'wow, that was helpful'

Of key note is that these sites are based in Australia. We need either an Australian writer or someone who can write for an Australian Audience (everything is different here, with product release dates, prices and details... )

Do you think you could help us with your magical writing powers? We're in need of a article writing superhero and await your presence.

Please MAKE SURE to supply articles in your proposal that show us you're up for the job, in this area of tech related articles.

Any questions on this assignment, please ask.

Freelance job, write about technology, payment: $15 p

Do your friends come to you for advice on their next big tech purchases? Do you make tech blogs a regular part of your daily news consumption? Can you explain what a smartphone is. . . in terms your grandmother would understand?

If so, you might have the chops to work as a staff writer at our consumer technology website. We're an online tech and lifestyle magazine covering everything electronic -- from the latest Apple iPad developments to innovations in the world of hybrid-electric vehicles. Our content spans from news, expert analysis and guides to in-depth reviews.

Right now, we're looking to expand our news bureau with a staff writer in the Bay Area who can work from home. Writers will typically work from press releases and other official announcements to strip out the PR fluff and drill down to the facts, injecting commentary, references to other relevant news, and occasionally contacting experts and other sources for commentary and clarification. You'll be writing multiple short, to-the-point news briefs, typically about 300 words in length. Compensation will be $15 per short post.

QUALIFICATIONS: Writers will need a basic familiarity with consumer electronics and tech. You don't need a working understanding of TKIP encryption and Perl, but if you don't know who Steve Jobs is, this job is not for you. Besides allowing you to write informed articles, a familiarity with tech will help you weed out boring and irrelevant news from the vital content that tech readers crave.

Keeping a conversational, informed and engaging tone is essential. Many competing tech sites have access to the same sources you will have -- like press releases -- so we're counting on your voice to make our news exceptional.

Because the world of tech moves quickly, many of your stories will hit the Web prior to making it through an editor. You'll need a proficiency in AP Style and an eye for detail and mistakes to produce publishable content without anyone holding your hand. Writers should also be open to the opportunity to perform additional assignments -- visiting tech companies, performing interviews, testing products, etc. -- on a per-article basis.

A sense of autonomy and responsibility are essential. After we show you the ropes, you'll be expected to smoothly produce content with minimal direction, and accountability for a certain number of posts daily.

We currently have openings for weekday writers who can commit to at least three posts per day. Hours are negotiable based on other commitments, but after writers will be expected to post within a daily time frame after establishing what works.

HOW TO APPLY: Please send us a resume, cover letter and three published clips of your choosing. Make note of whether you're interested in the weekend position, weekday position, or both.

Location: SF Bay Area

Compensation: $15 per post
