2nd Annual Council on Disability Awareness
Prose and Poetry Writing Contest: VOICES ON DISABILITY
The purpose of the Voices on Disability Poetry and Writing Contest is to encourage creative writing that explores and illuminates topics around the word "disability,” and more generally to increase awareness of disability issues and experiences.
Age Categories
* Youth: 17 & Under
* Adult: 18 & Over
Prizes
* One winner will be selected for each of the four categories, as well as a 2nd and 3rd place acknowledgement: Adult Prose, Adult Poetry, Youth Prose, and Youth Poetry.
* Winners will be notified within the first two weeks of March and asked to attend the Awards Reception in October.
Awards:
o 1st Place: Cash, Publication and certificate
o 2nd Place: Cash, Publication and certificate
o 3rd Place: Publication and certificate
Contest Submission Guidelines
* All University of Iowa faculty, staff, students and residents of Johnson County and surrounding counties are eligible to apply.
* One entry per person only.
* There is no submission fee.
* Writing parameters: 1500 words or less, can be an excerpt from a longer work.
* Prose or poetry must not be previously published.
* Please complete the Writing Contest Entry Form and email along with your entry.
* Your poem or prose must be electronic and in word.doc format.
* Applicant's Writing Contest Entry Form & prose/poem piece must be submitted to cda@uiowa.edu by 09/16/11.
