Open File is looking for journalists who want to write, take photos and/or do video for us. We pay $200 for 500 words article or equivalent project. The Montreal site will up and running at the end of April and a landing page will be online within the next few weeks.
As well as the traditional pitch from a freelancer, members of the community can “open files,” which is essentially pitching a story — “Why are all the tree’s in my neighbourhood being cut down?” — and if the pitch is good the editor can then assign it to a journalist like you.
For now, you can visit openfile.ca, and check out what other cities have done. For more information about the openfile and how it works, take a look at http://www.openfile.ca/about-openfile and http://www.openfile.ca/how-does-openfile-work.
If you would like to collaborate, please write to Caroline Boily at caroline@openfile.ca. Tell her about you work experience and which Montréal neighbourhood you live in.
