No application fee, Theater 4.669 Creators Lab, honorarium: $500 towards your project (Canada)

Deadline: 21 March 2011

Call for Submissions: Theatre 4.669 Creators Lab

Application to Theatre 4.669 Creators Lab

An invitation to new ideas

Theatre 4.669 would like to create new theatre, generate new ideas, and try out new forms of performance art. Toward this end, Theatre 4.669 is initiating its Creators Lab called T4.669CL.

Theatre 4.669 invites your ideas

Do you have an idea for a new work of theatre? Do you and a few colleagues need support, infrastructure, a creative facilitator, some time and a few bucks? Then pitch your idea to T4.669CL.

T4.669CL will provide the following to successful applicants:

1) $500.00 honorarium to be used towards your project

2) 20 hours of studio time at the University of Ottawa

3) access to stock furniture, props and costumes if required

4) Theatre 4.669 Artistic Director Kevin Orr facilitating.

The goal of each project will be the creation of 10 minutes of “sample” performance material.

T4.669CL will be a series of workshop opportunities for professional artists from both the English and French theatre communities of Ottawa.

T4.669CL sera une série d’ateliers pour les artistes professionnels des communautés théâtrales anglophones et francophones d’Ottawa.

With its first production, Theatre 4.669 created Bifurcate Me which was performed at the inaugural Undercurrents Festival at GCTC. T4.669CL will be a creative hothouse where new ideas will be generated, worked in studio, presented to an invited audience, and then, if funding is available, moved onto further development or celebrated as great attempts.

Selection process:

An individual or group must put together a simple, one (max two) page proposal describing their idea, and their desired working method. As well please include the CV’s of the creators involved.

3 to 5 projects will be selected for an interview to discuss their idea. Only those projects selected for interview will be contacted. Following the interviews, 1 to 3 projects will be selected for the inaugural T4.669CL. Bring on the funk!

This brief proposal should be e-mailed to Kevin Orr, Artistic Director, Theatre 4.669 at korr@uottawa.ca.

Deadline: March 21st, 2011. Work on the projects will begin in mid-April.

Selection Criteria:

While all ideas will be considered, in general, Theatre 4.669 is looking for non-traditional material and working processes. In addition, one person projects, a project that has already been produced, or plays already published are discouraged. Participants are expected to have completed post secondary theatre training. Playwrights who wish to try something new are welcome to apply. With that criteria in mind, Theatre 4.669 is keen to hear your ideas, and celebrate the stupid, the crazy, the “oh my god it will never happen” extravaganza of fun. Let’s try something new.

Les demandes d’artistes francophones sont encouragées.
