Free contest, Bronson Memorial Essay Competition, top prize: $250 (Australia)

Deadline: 17 June 2011

Bronson’s Story

Bronson did not have a very good start in life and came to the RSPCA as an extremely timid and frightened dog who had been severely mistreated. Despite everything he had been through Bronson was a beautiful natured German Shepherd and soon found his forever home with the Robinson’s where he became a much-loved member of the family.

With Bronson’s recent passing the Robinson family were left wondering what would be a fitting memorial for the dog who had brought so much love and joy into their lives. They wanted Bronson to leave a lasting legacy that would help prevent other animals from suffering the same abuse. And so the Bronson Memorial Essay Competition came about. The competition will encourage the next generation of pet owners to think deeply about new and proactive approaches to the prevention of animal cruelty.

Your Task

Your challenge is to write an essay in which you identify one proactive and original idea for preventing cruelty. Discuss why you think your idea will be effective and how it could be implemented in a practical sense.

Your essay should be between 500 and 600 words. Your essay should follow a conventional structure and include an introduction, body and conclusion. Your essay does not need subheadings.

Judging Criteria

A team of Education Officers will judge your essay. Entries will be judged against the following criteria: originality, effort, presentation, essay structure and language and potential for practical application.

Your Prize

The winner will be awarded with a $250 cash prize. The winner’s school will also receive $250 to spend on animal welfare education resources for their library.
