Paying market, Best Fiction: a Journal of Short Stories, pays $20 per story

Best Fiction is an online publication of brilliant stories by new, emerging writers alongside the work of established authors. We celebrate authors and their fiction. We nominate published stories for prizes such as the Pushcart Prize. Consider the following guidelines before submitting a story to Best Fiction for publication:

1) Stories should be emailed to editor@bestfiction.org. Please include a brief cover letter in the text of the email. Paper submissions are accepted. Please contact editor@bestfiction.org if you wish to submit your story by mail. You may include a story in the text of an email or attach the story with Microsoft Word.

2) Stories should contain between 1,500 and 7,500 words.

3) Best Fiction pays a minimum honorarium of $25 US for first electronic and first North American serial rights.

4) Established authors may negotiate a fee for their stories.

5) Best Fiction publishes stories on a rolling basis. We will publish a fine story whenever we see one. Best Fiction aims to publish a miminum of 8 stories per quarter.

6) Best Fiction publishes short stories. The editor disregards labels such as ”literary fiction” and “crime fiction” because they can be misleading. All short stories will be considered for publication.

7) Best Fiction responds to submissions within 60 days.

8) Best Fiction seeks photography and art work for publication. If you have a great photo or art work, please contact editor@bestfiction.org.
