Submissions Open: We are currently accepting submissions for the second and third installment of the anthology.

Response Time: We will respond to all Authors within 3 Weeks of submission receipt.

Theme: The second and third anthologies are not ‘theme specific’; we are accepting general science fiction short stories that otherwise meet our guidelines.

Guidelines

Digital Science Fiction is a monthly anthology of compelling science fiction short stories from professional writers. Our anthology is published monthly through Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader and other eBook formats, and is directed towards a mature readership. We accept submissions of science fiction stories for review and possible publication as follows:

1. Use the below “Submission Link” to make your submissions. We use Submishmash.com to manage all submissions to Digital Science Fiction. We do not charge reading or editing fees and we will not redirect authors to any service that requires fees. Author’s will be required to create a free Submishmash account.
2. Stories must have a length of between 3,500 and 7,500 words to be considered.
3. You may make multiple submissions provided that each submission is in compliance with the submission guidelines. Please do not make simultaneous submissions.
4. We do not accept reprints or other previously published material.
5. We want stories for a mature audience. Content should be PG to R rated. No pornography or offensive content will be accepted. Please don’t submit anything that will get us in trouble.
6. This is a science fiction publication and we want science fiction stories. We will not consider fantasy stories or general fiction for publication in Digital Science Fiction. We have no other publications at this time so there really is no point in sending anything other than a science fiction story.
7. According to Wikipedia, the source of all that is correct in the Universe (really): “Science Fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with the impact of imagined innovations in science or technology, often in a futuristic setting. Exploring the consequences of such innovations is the traditional purpose of science fiction, making it a “literature of ideas”. Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possibilities. It is similar to, but differs from fantasy in that, within the context of the story, its imaginary elements are largely possible within scientifically established or scientifically postulated laws of nature (though some elements in a story might still be pure imaginative speculation).” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction)
8. We take the “scientifically postulated laws of nature” and “imaginative speculation” ideas pretty loosely here at Digital Science Fiction, so we’re just fine with aliens, alternative realities, death rays, time travel, and exceeding 299792458 metres per second. If forced into the debate, we would probably have to admit that we like the ‘fiction‘ just as much as the ‘science‘.

Terms

Authors will be provided with a complete Anthology Agreement for review and consideration prior to publication of accepted submissions. The following is a general, non-binding, statement of the terms under which Digital Science Fiction publishes submissions:

1. Authors are paid 5 cents per word based on final edit word count. Accepted submissions are paid 50% on acceptance and the balance, as adjusted, on final edit.
2. We buy first world anthology rights, in any language and any format, for a single particular Release of the anthology series. There is a six (6) month no other use provision. Rights apply only to a specific complete Anthology release, not general use of a work.
3. The work is initially published digitally, through Amazon Kindle and Sony eBook; however, we reserve the right to republish or reprint the complete anthology in any language or form.
4. We provide professional editing at our cost. Author must cooperate with the editor and make all reasonable changes, additions, or deletions.
