No application fee, Laurie J. Williams Scholarship for Journalism Students, award: $500 (eastern Washington)

Deadline: 15 May 2011

The chapter is now accepting applications for the Laurie J. Williams Scholarship. The scholarship, worth $500, is given annually to any student from Eastern Washington majoring in journalism at any college or university.

This application must be accompanied by:

1. Applicant’s high school or college transcript, including G.P.A.
2. A cover letter stating the applicant’s journalistic goals.
3. Three recent published writing samples highlighting the applicant’s writing ability.
4. Two letters of recommendation from teachers, professors or editors.
5. Three detailed descriptions of stories the students would pursue if given the opportunity, including outline, source contacts, and ideas for supporting art or graphics.

The application packet must be returned to the William O. Douglas Chapter and postmarked no later than May 15. Scholarship winners will be notified by June 30.

Winners must join an active professional or student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for the duration of the scholarship award.
