Paying market, In The Snake Magazine, pays $50 per story

We are currently accepting short stories for our first issue to be published in October 2011. At this time we are only accepting fiction, although in the future we hope to expand the extent of our publication to include non-fictional accounts as well as essays, reviews, and other genres. Please read our guidelines section below before submitting your work.

We accept submissions by mail or online. To submit online, please use our Submissions Tool.

To send us your work by mail, please send to:

Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope for us to mail you a reply. We cannot reply unless the envelope includes sufficient postage.

Please allow 6-8 weeks for us to reply. There is no charge or reader's fee for submission. Multiple and simultaneous submissions are okay. Please inform us as soon as possible if your work is published elsewhere.

Guidelines Short Stories

We accept short fiction submissions that are up to 10,000 words. Please do not submit novel excerpts unless they are self-contained as works of fiction. We are especially interested in stories that focus on character development, perception of self, and interpersonal relationships that reflect the nature and of the human experience. All genres are accepted.

Please do not submit stories that contain pornography or erotic descriptions. No explicit sexuality or excessive violence will be considered. (You may include encounters of a violent or sexual nature, as long as they are not explicitly described and are relevant to the storyline.)

We pay $50 per story for one-time World Wide Web publication rights. (As of now, we do not have a printed version of our magazine.) We pay on acceptance.
