Free contest, 2011 Australian Unity Bryan Kelleher Literary Award/ Poetry Competition, top prize: $1,000

Australian Unity in association with the Australian Natives' Association (ANA) and Henry Lawson Memorial and Literary Society invite submissions of original bush poetry to be considered for the annual Australian Unity Bryan Kelleher Literary Award.

Bryan Kelleher was a long standing member of the ANA who was passionate about acknowledging and honouring Australian achievements. The Australian Unity Bryan Kelleher Literary Award is our way of celebrating and preserving the substantial contribution Bryan made during his long association with the ANA and the Henry Lawson Society.

How to enter

Simply fill in the entry form and send together with three copies of your original bush poem to:

Entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not have won another competition. Each member may enter a maximum of three poems into the competition.

What is Bush Poetry?

An Australian Bush poem is any poem with good rhyme and metre, written about Australia, Australians or the Australian way of life. Some famous bush poets include Henry Lawson, Banjo Paterson and Dorothea Mackellar.

All prize winners will be published in the Summer edition of Australian Unity's Lifeplus magazine. All prizes will be presented at Australian Unity's 'Celebrating Australian Writers' event on Thursday, 15 September 2011.
