Free contest, JCC North Country Writers Contest, top prize: $100 per genre

Via nnyart.org: Entries of short fiction, poetry, or nonfiction follers a $100.00 prize. Open to all residents and friends of the North country and requests only that submissions reflect a connection to the North Country. Deadline is September 23, 2011. Entry is free. The Jefferson Community College North Country Writers Contest is open to all residents and friends of the upstate New York region. Aspiring writers won’t want to miss this opportunity to be published online and receive cash prizes! There is no entry fee.

The Writers Contest includes the following genres: Short Fiction, 1000 to 3000 words; Poetry, not to exceed 100 lines; and Essay/Non-Fiction, 1000 to 3000 words. All submissions should reflect a connection to the North Country. The award for each genre is $100 and online publication on the Jefferson Community College website. Entries which receive honorable mention will be awarded $25 and also published online.

Submissions must be previously unpublished work, in letter quality, and must be double-spaced. Author’s name, address, telephone number and email address must appear on attached cover sheet, but must not appear anywhere else in or on the manuscript.

Submissions are preferred electronically as a Microsoft Word attachment in rich text format (.rtf) emailed to ncwriterscontest@sunyjefferson.edu. If unable to submit electronically, submissions should be addressed to: North Country Writers Contest, English Department, Jefferson Community College, and 1220 Coffeen St., Watertown, NY 13601. Authors retain all rights to their work.

The North Country Writers Contest is sponsored by the Jefferson Community College Social Cultural Committee, Faculty Student Association and the College English Department.
