Thanks to the support of the Grace Marion Wilson Trust, the Victorian Writers' Centre is pleased to announce the third year of this writing competition. The competition is open to Victorian residents who are emerging or developing writers.
An emerging or developing writer (for the purposes of this competition) is defined as someone who has had three or less stories previously published in a recognised book, magazine or journal.
In both categories:
- Work must be between 2000 and 3000 words.
- Entries should be unbound and typed in 11 point font, with one and a half line spacing and pages numbered.
- Name should appear on the entry form only.
- Entries will be independently judged by established writers.
- First and second prize entries will be published in a special edition of The Victorian Writer (anticipated September 2011), and agreement for publication is a condition of entry.
- The entries must not have been published or accepted for publication by a recognised publisher, in print or on-line. (Please note: this does NOT include community publications, local independent publications or blogs). If your piece has been published in such a publication you are still eligible to enter the competition).
- Winners in our previous competitions (2008–10 both first and second prize) are not eligible to re-enter.
- Entry is free.
- Entries must be received via post or hand-delivered to Victorian Writers' Centre offices by 4 pm 17 June.
- TWO copies of each entry must be sent (for distribution to the judges).

Entries must be accompanied by the official entry form. The entry form is also available from our website: vwc.org.au The VWC is unable to accept or notify entrants that do not follow entry guidelines. If details pertaining to the layout or appearance of your entry aren’t specified above, please take this to mean that there is no specific requirement relating to that detail. Participants may submit a maximum of one entry per category. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Entries will not be returned.
