We are reading for our inaugural issue, which will largely include fiction and nonfiction. We will also consider poetry, commentary on relevant pop culture, and reviews of the following: books, food, cruises, amusement parks, concerts, field trips, underwear, holidays. Also translations. We are not seeking novellas or novel excerpts. Currently, you are published or not. Browse our guidelines and submit something we like; if we publish it here, we'll pay you for it.
Here's the thing: we are minimally staffed, struggling with time management, not all disarmingly witty and "in shape." We can be finicky. Possibly dismissive. We've been accused of overusing "finger quotes." But we love good writing. Everything will be read and addressed within a reasonable time frame. You will have our full attention, such as it is. Surprise us.
Submissions are accepted through our online manager, powered by Submishmash. We will not consider previously published work. Maybe we've already enjoyed it, though, so thanks.
Questions are welcome. Seriously: Questions. Do not submit via email or send us an email attachment. We won't open the attachment and will pettily delete your question, feeling great not having answered it. Please do not "check in" on your submission. We will contact you.
If you're interested in being a contributing columnist, send us an email including links to at least 4 places where we can read your stuff. While The Brooklyner in-house staff will typically curate interviews, we will consider unsolicited pitches for such content here.
Simultaneous submissions allowed, on the understanding you'll notify us if you place the work elsewhere. We do not accept paper submissions. Thanks, writers. We look forward to reading your work.
