Freelance writing, Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, pays $40 per story

Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, an award-winning chain of four weekly papers [The East Greenwich Pendulum, The North Kingstown Standard Times, The Chariho Times and The Coventry Courier], one twice-weekly paper [The Narragansett Times] and one daily paper [The Kent County Daily Times] is looking for freelance sports writers interested in covering hyperlocal sports stories.

Assignments will consist primarily around high school sports, particularly RIIL contests during the prep school year. The right candidate will need to know how to write featurized game stories that are more than just play-by-play rehashs of what happened and interesting features/profiles of local sports personalities.

Experience and a knowledge of AP style is preferred but not necessarily required. We are willing to help train/critique the right candidate.

This position is for $40 per story and a great gig for anyone looking to break into the newspaper industry and/or make connections around Rhode Island.
