Free to enter, G C O'Donnell Essay Prize, prize: $3,500 (Australia)

The G C O'Donnell essay prize is awarded every two years.



The prize is AUD$3,500 and is awarded to the author of an unpublished essay displaying original thinking on a topic of the author’s choice regarding copyright and the protection of the interests of authors. The winning entry is likely to exhibit original ideas on issues of practical importance in copyright or on copyright theory. The competition is open to any interested persons, including authors, lawyers and students, from anywhere in the world.



Terms and Conditions



General



1. Information on how to enter and prize details form part of these conditions. Entry into this promotion is deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions of entry.



2. The promoter is Australian Copyright Council ABN 63 001 228 780 of 3/245 Chalmers Street, Redfern 2016



3. The promotion starts at 10:00am Australian Eastern Standard Time (“AEDST”) on 22 June and ends at 5:00pm Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time (“AEDST”) on 2 September 2011 (Promotion Period)



Entry Conditions



4. Entry is open to all Australian and overseas residents.



5. Essays will not be returned.



How to Enter



6. To enter and to be eligible to win, an eligible entrant must during the Promotion Period :



a. Write an essay, which should be a minimum of 5,000 and a maximum of 10,000 words.



a. All entries must be supplied on white A4 paper and typed double-spaced.



b. Submit the original and two copies, The name of the author, a short biography and a summary of the essay (in 50 to 100 words) should be included on a detachable page.



c. In addition, a digital copy, clearly marked with the author's name in the subject line, should be sent to info@copyright.org.au.



d. The author's name should at no time appear on the essay or the copies. Essays will not be returned and will be disqualified if the author's name appears.

Judging criteria & Prize:



7. a. The entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the board of the Australian Copyright Council. The board may elect to not award the prize if no entry is of a sufficient standard.



b. The prize totals AUD$3,500 will be awarded at the 2011 Copyright Law and Practice Symposium dinner, to be held in Sydney on 13th October 2011.



The winning essay will be published in Copyright Reporter, the journal of the Copyright Society of Australia.



Intellectual Property



By submitting an entry, the entrant warrants that :



a. their entry is of their own creation;



b. authorise Copyright Society to publish this in Copyright reporter



c. their submitted entry does not infringe any third parties rights, including any third parties intellectual rights
