Free contest, Parker County Texas History Writing Contest, prize: $300

Parker County, Texas History Research Contest

Purpose:

The purpose of the Parker County, Texas History Research Contest is to encourage and reward authors of outstanding research papers on the history of Parker County, Texas. Individuals are encouraged to research and write scholarly papers that will enhance the collection of historic data pertaining to the county.

Award:

One award will be given to an individual in each of the following two categories:

. College students that are at least 18 years of age.
. Adults who are at least 18 years of age and not enrolled in college.

The winner of the competition in the college division will receive a $300 scholarship award. The winner of the competition in the adult division will receive a $300 cash award.

Eligibility:

Any individual that is 18 years of age or older is eligible to enter. The individual is not required to be a resident of Parker County.

Guidelines for Submission of Paper:

. The topic is to be pertinent to the history of Parker County, Texas from 1850 to 1990.
. All entries must be original and not previously published.
. All information in the submitted paper must be documented as to sources and reliability.
. Submitted papers are to follow the established guidelines cited in this proposal:

A. Minimum of six double-spaced format typed pages, not including title page or bibliography.
B. Times New Roman or Ariel font, size 12. No script fonts allowed.
C. The bibliography is to include all resources used.
D. Entries must include a title page indicating writer’s name, address and phone number.

Restrictions:

All entries become the property of the Parker County, Texas History and Heritage Inc. Based on their merit, entries will be published by the Parker County, Texas History and Heritage, Inc. and sold on the open market with all proceeds going to the Parker County, Texas and History and Heritage, Inc., a non-profit organization.

Deadline of Submission and Announcement of Winners:

The deadline for submission of papers will be April 5, 2011. Mailed papers must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2011. Announcement of winners of the competitions will be on or before May 14, 2011.
