General Writing Style

Most of our pieces are written in the third person and the active voice. Please read our magazine to get a sense of what we publish. We use Canadian grammar and spelling.

Columns

Although we are always open to queries for new ideas for articles and columns, we are continually searching for the very best content for the following columns.

Features

Most of our features explore the issues, people and places of climbing today. We also publish a limited number of well-written first person accounts. We don’t publish typical trip reports. Features are between 1500 and 2500 words long and pay $250. Photos will be paid for at the photo rate.

Northern Faces

These are intelligent, well-researched, 500-1000 word profiles of the personalities at the heart of Canadian climbing. Subjects have ranged from athletes to access gurus. We prefer prose type pieces for this column but are occasionally open to interview format. $150

Area Profiles

These pieces inform the readers of the best climbing areas around the world. Writers must entice readers with descriptions of unique areas with incredible climbing. Accommodations, non-climbing attractions and travel info must be dealt with in detail. 500-1000 words $150.

Reviews

We occasionally accept reviews by freelancers. Query us first.
