Do you want to see your written work out there on the streets of Wagga? Wagga City Council and the Booranga Writers' Centre are now opening submissions for a new public poetry project.
We are looking for poems to be put on display at selected bus shelters in the Wagga area; poems that are about, or in some way inspired by, the city of Wagga Wagga. Your poetry might include the city, the landscapes, the people - whatever Wagga means to you.
Selected poems will be displayed in a large poster style format.
Remember, these poems will be displayed in bus stops in the Wagga LGA and therefore will be read by people passing by on their way to other activities. We are attempting to catch people in their transitions between daily tasks and share something unexpected with them. When lodging your submission please keep this in mind, and consider where it will be viewed, remembering that heavy dense text may go un-noticed.
Selection of poems will be a competitive process: a panel of staff from the Wagga Council and the Booranga Writers' Centre will read all work submitted, and select the best work for public display.
Payment of $200 will be offered to each successful poet.
Due to the specific size of the posters, poems should be a maximum of 150 words, and limited to 20 lines (including blank lines).
Submissions of poetry will be accepted from now until 14 March 2011. Poets will be advised of the outcome late March.
Please email your submission (1 submission per person, and no more than 3 poems per submission) to: booranga@csu.edu.au
Postal submissions will not be accepted.
