For decades, Bouchercon has celebrated the crime fiction genre through panels, workshops, parties and the Anthony Awards. This year, we're going a step further.
Though getting published and being compensated for writing is growing increasingly difficult, Jon Jordan is hosting a fiction contest that will do just that. The winner will be published in the program book, which is distributed to every Bouchercon attendee, and will receive $100 + two complimentary Bouchercon 2011 passes.
The Spirit of Short Fiction contest will encourage young writers to express themselves through fiction and possibly launch future New York Times bestselling authors.
Contest details:
Open to all unpublished writers under the age of 18 at the time of submission
Stories must:
• Be less than 5000 words
• Take place in St. Louis
• Contain a mention of BBQ
Entries are due by May 1, 2011
Stories will be pre-judged by the Crimespree editors. They will narrow the submissions down to five finalists. The finalists will be reviewed by a group of authors and one winner will be chosen.
Prizes include:
• Story published in the Bouchercon program book
• Two complimentary Bouchercon registrations
• $100
