Scholarships Available for the Tin House Writer's Workshop (Oregon)

We are pleased to announce that we will be awarding both full and partial scholarships for the 2011 Tin House Summer Writers Workshops. Partial scholarships cover either Tuition or Food & Lodging. All scholarship recipients will need to provide for their own transportation to and from Reed College.

Scholarships are highly competitive. A board composed of Tin House Editorial staff members reviews each scholarship application, and judges the work based on its execution and promise, as well as how much the board feels an applicant might benefit from the Workshop. The board’s final decisions are made on the merit of the writing sample alone. Please do not send letters of recommendation.

The final postmark deadline for scholarship applications is March 14, 2011.

We will notify scholarship recipients by phone and email no later than May 16, 2011.

Guidelines

If you plan to apply by mail, please print and complete a scholarship application, as well as an application for general admission. All scholarship applicants will also be considered for general admission. In addition to those two application forms, please include a 300-500-word essay describing how you hope an experience at our conference will benefit your writing. Think of this as nothing more or less than an introduction to who you are and where you’re coming from as a writer.

If you prefer to apply online, please write a cover letter to accompany your writing and include the following information:

* List your 3 preferred workshop leaders.
* List any workshops or conferences you’ve attended in the past.
* Tell us how you heard about the Tin House Summer Writers Workshop.
* Tell us what you hope to gain from the workshop.
* 300-500-word Scholarship essay.

After establishing an account with our application manager, please upload everything as one file.

Scholarship applications do not require a separate fee, but be sure you have included an SASE and the $40 application fee along with your general application. Checks can be made out to Tin House Summer Writers Workshop. Drop all this in the mail to us at:
