Corkboard is currently accepting submissions for its third edition!
This issue focuses on stories about or inspired by music; whether you’re a musician, music enthusiast, or avid concert goer, we want to hear from you.
We will do our best to respond to submissions within two weeks of when they are received. If your work comes at other times rather than during the school year, we can’t guarantee a timely response.
If your work is chosen for the online magazine, Corkboard has one time rights and second serial rights to your work–this allows us to publish it once online and potentially publish chosen work in future Corkboard compilation volumes. Corkboard accepts simultaneous submissions, but if a piece is chosen for another magazine or publication please let us know immediately.
All submissions for Corkboard should be nonfiction. Submissions can be in one of three categories:
* Short nonfiction for pieces up to 600 words
* Long nonfiction for pieces between 600 and 1,500 words
If you are submitting to a particular contest please be aware of the restrictions for that event.
In general, we look for the following qualities in each submission:
* unique voice
* strong reporting
* compelling narrative
* broader themes that reach outside the context of the story
We recommend that writers wishing to appear in Corkboard review previously published stories for a general sense of what is likely to be accepted.
Corkboard does not pay for individual pieces but does award $100 prizes for pieces chosen best in their category.
If you have an accompanying photo, please send it with your submission. We reserve the right to choose a different photo, but appreciate your input. We also require an author photo with all submissions chosen for publication.
Corkboard accepts submissions via e-mail and snail mail. E-mail submissions can be sent to UWCorkboard [at] gmail [dot] com. Submissions may be included in the text of the e-mail or as an attachment. Manuscripts sent via snail mail should be sent to the following address:
