Free contest, The Good Times News Writing Contest, top prize: $300

The Good Times (www.TheGoodTimes.info) is launching a news writing competition, open to all (professional and non-professional writers), for original (unpublished) positive news stories in English to be judged on their novelty and freshness, accuracy, composition and literary value.

Features can include but are not limited to descriptions of what individuals/companies/organizations are doing to improve the world or make a difference; new proven inventions or current achievements, advances, exploits, breakthroughs in medicine, science or other fields; profiles of inspiring people and role models; current positive changes, reforms or developments in any area.

Articles should be no longer than 800 words, should begin with a headline and dateline, if relevant, and must include the author's name and contact details.

Deadline for submission of positive news stories is 30 April 2011. Submissions received after this date will not be taken into consideration for this contest.

The organizers and a panel of professional journalists and writers will judge the articles, awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Only one article per writer will be accepted. Decisions of the judges and awards are final.

Winners will be notified individually and announced on the website.

1st prize: US$300
2nd prize: US$200
3rd prize: US$100

Winners will be notified by 31 May 2011. The award-winning articles will be recognized and featured on The Good Times website at www.TheGoodTimes.info.

The Good Times intends to run this contest several times during the year. The prize money and frequency of the contest are subject to change.

Organizers reserve the right to copy-edit submissions. The copyright of any article contributed in the context of this contest shall remain the property of the article's author.

Participation in this contest and submission of an article implies the author’s agreement that any submission may be posted (with author name and date) on www.TheGoodTimes.info.
