Types of Submissions
Our Local Table-Monadnock has an ongoing need for the following types of articles and columns:
Feature (word count: 1000-1200)
Our lead stories cover a wide range of topics – from “how to” advice, seasonal/holiday topics, human interest stories featuring local farmers/growers/artisan food & fiber producers…to profiles on local food and health activists and supporters. We also encourage “think” pieces about the benefits of local food and local economy. Photos typically taken by contributing photographer, but please let us know if you have photos available.
Our Local Farmer (word count: 400)
This short column is a look at a Monadnock region farmer and what he or she grows and sells. The goal is to focus on something unique about the farm or farmer. Must include contact information. Accompanying photos appreciated.
Local Chefs…Local Food (word count: 400 with a recipe or cooking tip sidebar)
A short profile of an area chef, restaurant, or food institution that is using local food/beverages on its menu. Must include where they are getting their food from (which farms), any challenges faced, and contact information. Accompanying photos appreciated.
Back Page Backyard (word count: 400) – Written by a contributing columnist
This column is a look at what a Monadnock area resident is growing or raising in his or her back yard. (No for-profit growers/farmers for this column, please.) This column is in a Q&A format and requires that you take pictures of the garden, livestock, and home owner. Accompanying photos appreciated.
Books/Opinions (word count: 500)
Book excerpts or opinion pieces on the topic of local food and economy. We do not pay for book excerpts; opinion columns written by freelance writers only will be paid. Others will receive full attribution/bio (and photo).
