Freelance job, book editing, payment: $1 per page

If you have never edited as a hired "editor" please do not respond to this posting unless you are a new editor with credentials. Professional editing is required. If you have edited books, technical papers, magazines this is what we want.

We have current and future editing needs. We are willing to give new editors a chance to gain publishing credits in our books. We may not be able to respond to all who answer this ad if we become swamped with applications. We pay more than $10 for a typical editing job.

Editor / Publisher Agreement

Payments: First, I want to explain this is not full-time employment and editing work is contracted out to you as an independent contractor and paid for on a per page basis of $1 (one-dollar per page when you finish editing that page, not when the book or project is finished). The pages are closely set type, not double-spaced and may be any size, including 8x11 inches. Small books may require fifty-cents per page editing fee, but only if you agree to that beforehand, otherwise the standard rate if $1 per page will be paid.

Self-Employed Independent Contractor: You, as proofreader/editor, must agree that you are not an employee of James Russell and you are not claiming, now or in the future, any copyrights or literary expression, artistic creation, intellectual property or other rights to claim royalties or payments other than the $1 (one-dollar) per page paid to you.

Professionalism: You also must perform high quality professional results. Your editing must be totally proofread and edited to acceptable English writing criteria. If errors are found by the publisher you will agree to rewrite and proofread again your work. If more errors are found this agreement terminates.

Book Credits: Credit on the title page of the book or publication with your complete legal name can be given, but the editing work must be satisfactory to the publisher and the entire book completed by you to earn this privilege. It is a privilege, not a right or a promise that your name will appear on the title page of the book or publication. If your name does appear on the title page of the book you legally agree to release you name for such purpose under this publisher, or any other future publisher of the book without any additional compensation other than what this agreement contains regarding payment of services. You also agree that your name may be used for marketing purposes to help sell the book and it will be included in worldwide databases, catalogs, sales brochures and industry and retail websites that describe the book, its contents, it's author and editor(s) identifying name.

Abandonment Clause: Sometimes editors move on in life abandoning a project by mistake, hardship or intentional abandonment. It is the editor's responsibility to maintain contact with the publisher at least once per month by e-mail or postal mail. If contact fails, the project may be deemed abandoned and the publisher has the right to shop the manuscript out to another editor without any compensation to you. Please, do not abandon the manuscript or editing job. Keep publisher abreast of your progress at least once per month.

Unreasonable Delays: Publisher request editor to perform the editing assignment in a reasonable measure of time, generally 30 days if not prior arrangements otherwise. If delays present itself, just ask publisher for extensions of time and if publisher feels the request is reasonable and extension of time may be granted.

Payment: I pay by check, not cash and not by money-order. Again, this is not full-time or even part-time employment, it is overflow work and there is no guarantee or promise of prolonged income to you and it may cease for any reason and at any time without explanation.

References: Publisher will give editor a good reference for good quality work performed to assist editor in obtaining employment with other publishing firms.

Alterations of Agreement: Any alterations of the terms and conditions herein must be made in writing and mutually agreed to by all parties to be valid. Laws of the state of Nevada apply.
