The City of Monash is conducting the 15th annual Monash Short Story Competition. The community of the City of Monash is invited to submit their entries in accordance with the Conditions of Entry.
Prizes
Commendation Certificates will be awarded to two stories in each category.
Category A (12 - 14 years) Judged by Catherine Bateson 1st Prize $200 2nd Book voucher 3rd Book voucher
Category B (15 - 17 years) Judged by Catherine Bateson 1st $300 2nd Book voucher 3rd Book voucher
Category C (Adult) Judged by Steven Amsterdam 1st $500 2nd $250 3rd $100
The judges will announce the winners and present the awards at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday 1 October 2011.
Conditions of Entry
Participants must be a resident, work or attend school in the City of Monash or be a memberof Monash Public Library Service.
One entry per person.
The competition will be judged in three sections:
Category A: 12 - 14 years 500 words maximum Category B: 15 - 17 years 1,000 words maximum Category C: Adult 2,000 words maximum
Entries not adhering to the maximum word limit will be disqualified.
Entries must be own original individual work, either personal or narrative.
Students undertaking VCE may submit VCE writing assignments provided they meet Conditions 1,2,3 & 4.
Scripts and poetry will not be accepted.
Entries must be typed and in a minimum size 12 font.
Entries will be judged on content.
Entries must be accompanied by an official entry form available online or from Monash Public Library Service branches.
(Note there are different forms for Individuals or Schools).
Entries open 27 May 2011 at 10.00am Entries close 27 August 2011at 4.00pm
(Entries will not be returned).
Individual entries must be verified by parent/guardian as entrant’s own work.
The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
Adult entrants MUST show name and address on cover sheet only, NOT on the story itself. Persons not adhering to this condition will be disqualified.
Winners, place getters and commended stories must be provided in electronic format, upon request, for inclusion on the Monash Public Library Service website, and in a booklet that will be made available in Monash Libraries.
By entering writers give consent to their works potentially being published in local press and online media unless the writer provides a written objection attached to the entry.
