Freelance writing, Westchester County weekly community newspapers, pays $30-$50 per assignment

Company that publishes five award-winning community weekly newspapers in Westchester County, N.Y. is seeking "steady" freelance reporters. Freelancers are paid on a per assignment basis, at $30 to $50 for each assignment based on experience.

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates MUST have a digital camera, own a car, and live in lower Westchester County or immediate area.

WHAT WE WANT:

Writers who are ready and willing to take regular work for weekly deadlines, rather than candidates who are looking for a "one and done" byline. Our most regular freelancers are assigned to geographical beats, generate and pitch their own stories, and can even have a photo on our masthead.

We are community newspapers and therefore reporters should expect to cover community news: local government board meetings, zoning issues, outdoor community events, etc.

WHAT WE DON'T WANT:

-Candidates who wish to write opinion pieces, movie reviews, food reviews, sports columns, etc.

-Writers who do not want to cover news of any particular kind, such as those who do not wish to cover crime stories, local government, or any particular type of article. (When a freelancer rejects a story assignment based on a reason other than scheduling conflict, editorial staff does not assign the writer another story).

-Photographers not willing to write articles, or reporters not willing to shoot photos. These duties will go hand-in-hand.
