Depending on the type of article, the deadline for accepted queries to be researched, written, and submitted to the assigning editor is 4 to 6 months prior to publication date.

● Frequency: 10x per year: December/January, February, March, April, May, June, July/August, September, October, and November

FROM QUERY TO CONTRACT
● No manuscripts, please! Only well-developed ideas, including scouting shots if applicable, will be considered.
● When submitting queries, do not send originals, and retain a copy for your files. Due to volume, we cannot be responsible for lost/misplaced materials and are unable to guarantee submission returns even when accompanied by a SASE.
● Assigning editors will contact the writer to pursue an idea.
● Coastal Living pays $1 per word, plus reasonable expenses agreed upon in advance. Compliance with our expense guidelines is mandatory, as noted in the contract.
● Kill fees are 25% of the assigned fee, as noted in the contract.
● Finder’s fees are paid when and where applicable at editor’s discretion.
