Free contest, Thea Foundation's 2011 Creative Writing Scholarship Competition, prize money: $5,000 scholarship (Arkansas)

2011 Creative Writing Scholarship Information

Who May Submit: Arkansas Senior High Schools Students (Public, Private, Home-schooled, GED)

Submission Theme: Students will use Thea Leopoulos's artwork (pictured to the left) as inspiration for their own original short story.

Submission Length: Maximum 1,000 words

Style: Short Story

Rules:

Students must register online before mailing or emailing their short story www.theafoundation.org

Title of short story must be original. Title of piece must be on the top of each page. Each page must have a page number.

Submission must include your name, mailing address, phone and the title of our piece.

*Include this information in the text of your email or on a separate piece of paper included with your hard copy.

Do not include this information on the short story. Identifiers on your short story other than the title and page number will be result in disqualification.

Submission Deadline: February 25th, 2011 Students must register online before mailing or emailing their short story.

Announcements: Winners will be announced in early April and will be invited to ceremonies to read their work and accept their awards.

Judges: Five professionals working within the field. (Think authors, publishers, etc.)

Short Story Theme:

Use the artwork here as inspiration for your story. Soak up the colors and forms. What are you imagining, remembering, or feeling? What story do you see in this artwork?

THEA Scholarship Awards

Two Scholarships

1st Place-$3,000

2nd Place-$2,000

The awards are one-time scholarships, and are awarded to the accredited college, university or institute upon the student enrolling full-time. There are no major, grade point or test score requirements to win these scholarships.

Matching scholarship funds are available through the foundation's partnering institutions

The THEA Foundation is a nonprofit public foundation founded in 2001 by the parents of Thea Kay Leopoulos, Linda and Paul David Leopoulos. The founders and Board of Directors have adopted the mission of carrying Thea’s legacy forward through advocating the importance of the arts in the development of our youth through Creative Writing, Visual, Film, and Performing Arts Scholarships, partnership, and other programs such as Thea’s Art Closet, Art Across Arkansas and our Workshop series. All THEA programs are designed to help build self-confidence in Arkansas youth.
