Want to work from home blogging about crime, health, psychology, relationships, government, technology, money and more? We are looking for a freelance writer to regularly contribute 3 times per week to Naked Law (nakedlaw.avvo.com) and Naked Health (nakedhealth.avvo.com), blogs by Avvo.com.
If you're not familiar with Avvo, we are a website that matches people with doctors and lawyers, as well as educates people about legal and health issues. Avvo receives over 2 million visits per month and has been featured on Good Morning America, ABC News, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and more.
The idea behind the Naked Law is to talk about all the interesting, entertaining or bizarre ways that law intersects life. This is not a collection of boring "How to get a divorce" or "What to do in a car accident" legal guides. What appears on Naked Law should have mass appeal to people without immediate legal problems or even without any interest in law.
The idea behind Naked Health is similar, to talk about the more interesting aspects of health and wellness. What appears on Naked Health should have mass appeal to people without immediate health problems. The scope of Naked Health goes far beyond simple physical health, covering psychology, food, beauty, relationships, and more. Think Cosmo Magazine, but willing to get a bit more serious, and not necessarily focused on women.
-The Job-
We are looking for a writer who can work from home and contribute to 3 articles per week, alternating every week between law and health.
Every blog post should:
- Be interesting, entertaining and insightful.
- Be written at a level anyone can understand.
- Be punchy enough to accommodate short attention spans.
- Be unique and add value (not just a rehash the news already reported elsewhere).
- Have lots of viral potential.
- Always have a catchy title.
- Have some connection to law or health, even if it's a thin or indirect connection. E.g., for law it could be a one paragraph intro explaining the Endangered Species Act in a blog post about animals on the verge of extinction, or anything having to do with crime. For health it could be a post about relationships, psychology, happiness, workplace stress, interesting foods, other cultures, etc.
- Be well-researched with plenty of links back to reputable online sources.
The best way to see the type of writing we want is to browse existing blog posts at nakedlaw.avvo.com and nakedhealth.avvo.com.
-The Ideal Writer-
You are someone who:
- Can consistently contribute 3 blog posts a week.
- For Naked Law, can cover politically charged topics objectively.
- Can write blog posts from ideas that come from the editor and/or come up with your own blog post ideas.
- Is a solid internet researcher.
- Is an information and news junkie who knows what's going on in the world and what issues are hot.
- Is familiar with Wordpress
-Pay-
Pay is $40 per blog post, and posts should average around 700 words each.
If you're interested, please send a resume & short email that explains 1) why this job would be a good match for you given your circumstances and background and 2) a few ideas for blog posts you would write on Naked Law and Naked Health (please submit blog post title ideas only, not complete blog posts).
Short list candidates will have the opportunity to write a blog post for pay, and then the final candidate will be selected.
Compensation: $40 per blog post
Telecommuting is ok.
