Red Thread magazine (redthreadmagazine.com), the new monthly features magazine from the publisher of the Detroit Jewish News, is soliciting for story pitches from the great writers in this community. We want to cast our net wide and not rely on the same old sources. We are a Jewish publication with a target audience between ages 25 - 45. We try and promote the good things about living in the Detroit area without the syrup or Sacharine that some media outlets add. Please do not send articles on spec. We would hate for you to take the time and write a piece that we won't buy!
We are looking for story ideas/pitches on the following subjects:
1. Business stories/profiles of principals -- Local or with a strong local connection
2. Employment/Career advice that is helpful -- and not top-of-mind
3. Home-based business profiles
4. Humor
5. Parenting Issues
6. Religion Issues
7. Detroit-Israel Issues/Analysis
8. Sports
9. Feature Articles: Stories that resonate with the community and need to be told in a longer, more compelling format.
Instructions for Submitting Pitch Letters:
1. Please write "Article Pitch" in the subject of your email
2. Provide a one paragraph explanation on the article you would like to write.
3. Attach two clips or include two links to published pieces
4. Include a contact number and email address in your inquiry.
We like mildly irreverent if it's appropriate for the piece. We are slightly snarky, when we can get away with it, and always strive to tell a good story. We know you have one to tell us -- and write for us, too.
Location: Detroit Metro Area
Compensation: $150 - $300+ depending on the length of the piece assigned.
Telecommuting is ok.
