Freelance writing, Ask Gladys!, pays $50 per writing assignment (NE Minneapolis)

Northeast Minneapolis' "Ask Gladys!" is a commentary writer, tree-shaker and rabble rouser when it comes to neighborhood crime, public safety and livability issues. She takes questions from the public on all kinds of topics, researches the related facts and replies publicly via her blog, which is part of the Northeast Minneapolis Crime Watch website (http://www.crimewatchne.com/ask-gladys). She has her own Facebook page too.

Ask Gladys! receives so many requests for answers that she is now seeking assistant creative writers to research and write about crime, public safety and livability issues. Some topics may be controversial. Some field research and/or "undercover" work may be necessary.

Write on assignment, or self-assigned topics. (Topic examples may include: Bicyclists who don't obey traffic laws; drunk and/or disorderly passengers on buses; criminal sentencing guidelines; vehicles that fail to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks; repeat offender who never spend any time in jail; panhandlers; slumlords; irresponsible pet owners; unlicensed contractors, etc...). Lots more topics available, but they're just too juicy or controversial to mention here!

Requirements:

--Must have excellent writing skills
--Ability to mix facts with opinion (with a sassy style)
--Ability to write on controversial topics
--Ability to interview subjects, elected officials, public servants, etc
--Ability to do research online (relevant ordinances, codes, etc)
--Must have access to Internet, email
--Vehicle would be helpful. Some assignments may require field research.
--Camera (one on your mobile device will probably be fine)

Other:

--Deadlines are flexible
--Write and research as your schedule allows
--At least one submission per month is expected
--Your work will be subject to review and editing

You'll get your own byline (or you may write under a pseudonym) and have your work published online (2500++ viewers per month and growing).
