The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) is looking for an experienced freelance writer to serve as the Web Content Writer and develop static content (e.g. the “About Us” page) and expert-informed analysis pieces in advance of CDP’s expected launch in November 2011. A successful writer will have the opportunity to continue taking on substantial amounts of work beyond just the initial launch phase. Responsibilities include:
• Conduct research for and write ten initial CDP articles – disaster updates and primers (e.g. WASH in disasters). The average article is around 1,000-1,500 words and pays between $400 and $500. A total of 40 analysis pieces will be complete by the sixth month following the launch.
• Write content for CDP informational and background pages
• Contributes to/updates CDP’s social sites like Facebook and Twitter (potentially for post-launch)
Requirements
• Has freelance writing experience and able to consistently meet deadlines
• Skilled in moderate web research and writing online content
• Capable of writing for the donor audience
• Comfortable with writing in templates
• Bachelors degree
• Experience with HTML, CSS, and working with content management systems (CMS) is a plus
Recommended Qualifications
• Interest in philanthropy and/or disaster response and humanitarian relief
• Experience writing for a nonprofit or company with a social mission
• Experience with social networks and implementation of social media marketing
