THE NEED: Hartland Patch is looking for freelance writers, videographers, columnists and photographers to help cover the Hartland area in eastern Livingston County. We already have a great group of contributors, but we always welcome more because if you have some stories to tell, we want to be the place you can share them.

WHO ARE WE? We're a community-based news website that covers Hartland, Mich. We're on Facebook — www.facebook.com/hartlandpatch — and Twitter — twitter.com/hartlandpatch. We're also part of Patch.com, a company that's starting hyperlocal sites across the country, including several other sites in SE Michigan, such as Plymouth Patch — plymouth-mi.patch.com and Brighton Patch — brighton.patch.com.

TYPE OF WORK: It could range from covering local events, high school sports and government to writing features about everyday people. And depending on the circumstance, it could be sharing your own personal experiences.

EXPERIENCE: Previous professional or college journalism experience is a must and a connection to the Hartland area is preferred.

COMPENSATION: $50 is typical for a story or photo shoot; can be higher/lower depending on the nature of the assignment.

OTHER NOTES: This is a part-time job. This is a contract job.
