World Trade Press, a publishing company that develops electronic information products for the academic and public library market, is currently in development of a subscription-based world city and country travel website, AtoZ World Travel. We have been in business since 1993 and are located in Petaluma, California. (www.worldtradepress.com)
We need several professional travel writers to produce editorial content on transportation in up to 70 world cities. The assignment involves writing six articles (of varying length) per city on the various modes of available transportation.
Please have existing published work to your credit (commercial Web content strongly preferred), and include writing samples with your application. You’ll also need to be an expert in Internet research of primary sources, both in English and in other languages, and be able to gauge the reliability of sources and information. Additionally, you must be able to differentiate between essential and non-essential information, synthesize information from a variety of sources, and craft dense, concise, unambiguous, elegant, and grammatically sound sentences.
Please be a master of brevity, detail, parallel construction, n- and m-dashes, active voice, dynamic verbs, punctuation, rhythm, and hyperlinks.
We would especially like to hear from writers who have intimate, first-hand knowledge of traveling in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kathmandu, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Taipei, Dalian, Shenzhen, Pusan, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Addis Ababa, Lagos, Abuja, Dhaka, Beirut, Dammam, Jeddah, Dar Es Salaam, Tunis, Kuwait City, Damascus, or Bucharest, and/or are proficient in reading Vietnamese, Mandarin, Malaysian, Amharic, Sidamo, Bangla, Arabic, Hindi, Khmer, Nepalese, or Romanian.
We have a style guide and very specific instructions for content, structure, length, and style. We also do regular checks for copyright infringement.
Pay is a fixed rate of $195 per city (six articles) for articles requiring only a brief copy edit and proofing. This is a freelance job and you can work from anywhere—we currently have writers based around the world, from Prague to Quito to San Francisco. Payment can be sent via Paypal if requested; we generally make payments on a bi-monthly basis.
